TV Pilots For 7/23/13: Timur Bekmambetov To Executive Produce ‘Warriors Of Oz’ For Syfy

Lawless Network: ABC Production Companies: ABC Television Studios, Shondaland Executive Producers: Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, K.J. Steinberg Logline: A maverick lawyer returns to her hometown to right the wrongs she left behind. SSN Insight: One of the first buys for the 2014-2015 development season for ABC. Shonda Rhimes has two returning series this fall with Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. Masters of Illusion Network: CW Production Company: Associated Television International Executive Producer: Gay Blackstone Logline: A show that features comedic magic, daring escapes, grand illusions and more. Details: The CW is reviving Masters of Illusion, which ran for three seasons on MYNetworkTV, and have ordered 13 new episodes. Down Dog Network: Bravo Production Company: Warner Horizon Television Logline: Set during the Wall Street crash of ’08, a female hedge fund trader in New York finds her business and personal life going in the tank. Needing an outlet to calm her anxieties, she turns to yoga and finds inner peace via the teachings of a mysterious male yoga teacher. Together they create a worldwide self-help/religious movement, called "Humble Tiger." Details: This is the second new script ordered by Bravo this week, the first one entitled A Bleak House is based on the book by Charles Dickens. You’re The Worst Network: FX Logline: Two toxic self-destructive people fall in love and attempt a relationship. SSN Insight: Falk is a producer on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and was a producer on Showtime’s Weeds. He also created the NBC show Next Caller, which was ordered for six episodes but cancelled before the pilot aired. The Kingkiller Chronicle Production Companies: New Regency Productions, 20th Century Fox Television Executive Producers: Eric Heisserer, Arnon Milchan, Andrew Plotkin, Brad Weston, Robert Lawrence Logline: Set in a compelling world where the sharpest minds can master magic, the show tells the story of Kvothe, a streetwise young man who hopes to one day hunt down the mysterious group that murdered his family. Details: Based on Rothfuss’ fantasy trilogy books: The Name of the Wind (2007), The Wise Man’s Fear (2011) and the soon to be published Doors of Stone. Clone Network: What if there were more of you? And what if you could save those versions of yourself from being killed? Production Company: Universal Television Executive Producers: Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, David Engel, David Schulner Logline: What if there were more of you? And what if you could save those versions of yourself from being killed? Details: Based on the comic book series "Clone," by David Schulner. SSN Insight: Schulner created NBC’s midseason drama Do No Harm, which was recently cancelled. 12 Monkeys Network: Syfy Production Company: Atlas Entertainment Logline: An adaptation of the film, in which a convicted criminal uses time travel to gain a pardon in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth's population is forced to live underground after a deadly virus. Details: Based on the 1995 film 12 Monkeys, which in turn was based on the 1962 short, La Jetee. SSN Insight: Project is being eyed as a 90-minute backdoor pilot that would eventually lead to a straight-to-series order. The Assets Network: ABC Entertainment Group Production Company: Lincoln Square Productions Executive Producers: Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar, Andrew Chapman Logline: A look inside the personal stories of the Cold War, as told by the CIA. Details: Based on Sandra Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille's book, Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed. SSN Insight: Ordered as a limited series to air in 2014. Warriors of Oz Network: Syfy Production Company: Universal Cable Productions Executive Producer: Timur Bekmambetov Logline: A warrior from present day Earth is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz where he must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land. Details: A fantasy-action reimagining of the classic story, The Wizard of Oz. SSN Insight: Syfy is also developing two other mini-series projects announced earlier this year: Ringworld and Childhood’s End.
