TV Pilots For 6/25/13: Amazon Developing First Drama,’Bosch,’ Based On Michael Connelly Book Series

Bosch Network: Amazon.com Production Companies: Fabrik Entertainment Executive Producers: Michael Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Henrik Bastin, Mikkel Bondesen Logline: A police procedural about Harry Bosch, a veteran police homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Details: Based on the character Harry Bosch, who has been featured in over twenty novels by Michael Connelly, starting with the 1992 novel The Black Echo. SSN Insight: Amazon’s original slate of 14 pilots, five of which went to series, were comedies and kids programming. This is the first drama project they are developing. Schlub Life Network: Comedy Central Executive Producers: Greg Hess, Mark Raterman, Andy Miara, Victor Nelli Jr. Logline: Two cheerfully clueless best pal schlubs, along with their wives, are social disasters, although they never stop trying. SSN Insight: This will be the second pilot created for Comedy Central by members of the local improv team Cook County Social Club. Last year they created My Mans,  but the network ultimately passed on the show. Man Seeking Woman Network: FX Network Production Company: Broadway Video Executive Producers: Simon Rich, Jonathan Krisel Logline: Looks at the life and death stakes of dating in New York City. Details: Based on the book The Last Girlfriend on Earth, by Simon Rich. SSN Insight: If this project goes to series, Rich, who is 28, would be one of the youngest series creators ever. He is already one of the youngest writers to be on staff on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail Network: Comedy Central Production Company: Red Hour Television Executive Producers: Jonah Ray, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily Gordon, Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld, Debbie Liebling, Mike Rosenstein Logline: Series will feature some of the hottest stand-up comedians performing onstage and go behind-the-scenes with them as they hang out in the greenroom. Details: The series, which is based on the live comedy show of the same name, will be filmed in the back of Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Showtime/Untitled David Cross Comedy Project Network: Showtime Production Company: Liberal Jew-Run Media Productions Executive Producers: David Cross, Tim Sarkes Logline: A modestly successful travel writer struggles to keep his families happy and satisfied and keep them from finding out about the existence of the other one. SSN Insight: This is the fourth project that Cross has created. The others were Mr. Show for HBO, Freak Show for Comedy Central, and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret for IFC. Showtime/ Untitled John Legend Comedy Project Network: Showtime Production Companies: Get Lifted Film Co., Universal Cable Productions Executive Producers: John Legend, Mike Jackson, Troy Carter, Austin Winsberg, Ty Stiklorius SSN Insight: Last year Legend performed a musical special, which was in series contention at Showtime, but ultimately wasn’t picked up.
